Hundred Mile blog post #1

I've decided to post a picture every hundred miles. This is the first.

Vacation

We are heading south to escape the rain. Five hours on the road and 200 miles… still raining.

New Years Day 2011

There are a ton of birds at my feeding area right now.  Here's the list:

  • Juncos
  • Towhees
  • Black Capped Chickadees
  • Mourning Doves
  • Willow Goldfinches
  • Rosy Finches
  • Song Sparrows
The oddest of all of these is the Towhees with their red eye.  They look evil.  If I were to toss some peanuts out, I would no doubt bring the stellar jays down from the trees, and when the flickers discover the suet, they will be here too.   I saw a varied thrush earlier this morning, but I think he got chased off by the little guys.

I purchased a cool window feeder from Wild Birds Unlimited, and it's giving me some up close photo ops...  if only the little buggers would hold still.

Note:  It took 30 minutes for the jays to arrive......
