Pillars of Rome or Oregon tourism council needs help

It took us several attempts over a couple of days, but we finally located the real goal of our excursion. You probably haven't even heard of them. The 14 million old monolithic structures left behind by the Owyhee river, five miles long and 100 feet high "Pillars of Rome" are a magnificent sight to see, if you can find them. They aren't on the map, and even the roads to get there can be hard to spot. Here's a hint. Set your gps to the intersection of Rome & Kiger in Rome, Or. Don't turn off Hwy78 until you are at Rome Crossing. Trust me. NONE of the Iron Mt roads will connect with anything but cattle.

Anyway, the trip will be worth it. Nearest lodging is in Burns, 90 minutes away but on the plus side of that, you cross in to mountain time so technically you get a free hour.

Oh yeah, the Pillars?Breathtaking!
